  • This is one smooth album. It's makes a really nice easy listening, modern soul album. There are influences everywhere from Prince to Adel. Even though this is a Pop album, there is a big soul feeling to it. Lots of shuffle beats, higher pitched lyrics and 9th chord changes, musically, it's lends it self as a soul album more than a pop album. Even though artist like Sam Smith and Rag And Bone Man have danced with this style, I'd say this may be one of the best exsample and bends of these two genres. What I will say is that the song righting on this album is fantastic. There's a strong Steely Dan vibe with songs talking about addictions and regrets whiles the music takes these subjects to a different place. My one problem with this album is that that productionly and compositionly, songs feel scared to build into anything. In the song "Elements" the ending turns to a great chord progression with layered vocals. Insted of building to something epic it ends with a quiet drum machine. Haveing said this, I can't help but love the finle outcome and realy do showcase what a good Modern album should sound like.6.5/10
