  • As much as I have a soft spot for Decoded Feedback, including some of the new stuff which is a lot more mature sounding, Mechanical Horizon is pretty cliche industrial/EBM. First, the name of the album... then the gears on the cover... and from the first seconds of the opening track Reflect in Silence, complete with a full drum loop blatantly stolen from Front 242. The album is full of foreboding, gothic strings, percussive loops that don't always seem in sync, frequently distorted vocals... and all without much dancefloor energy, despite the constant 4/4 beats. The reason I'm taking the time to review this album is because I'm going back through DF's discography to see if I missed anything good during the 2000's. With a few rare exceptions (like their 2003 cover of Swan's Love Will Save You, which is surprisingly good), I unfortunately didn't miss too much.
